RULES AND REGULATIONS OF SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SING CONTEST
MEANDMIC .COM / KWC KARAOKE COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS:
The SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SING / MEANDMIC.COM / KWC contest is meant for entertainment and fun for the pub and it's patrons. First rule of thumb - where common sense should prevail as the answer - so it shall!
No employees of THE ADMIRAL PUB will be permitted to enter the event. TO be eligible for this contest - you must abide by the following:
Must not earn more than 50% of your living as a singer or performer exclusively - karaoke hosts are welcome providing the other rules are adhered to.
You must not be currently touring the circuit or have a record deal with any label or have any professional representation as a singer, be a union or agency represented performer.
You must have all NECESSARY TRAVEL documentation (passports) and permission in the event you are chosen as champion. Canadian Citizenship may be asked for and need to be shown.
No employees of THE HOST PUB will be permitted to enter the event.
You must utilize the library of ONE NIGHT PRODUCTIONS for your contest songs choices or provide us with a disc in CD+G format ONLY - NO VCD's, DVD's, Vocal Eliminator, or backing tracks only are permitted.
E-mail will be MAIN FORM of communication, phones / texting will be second. It is your responsibility that you provide us with a reliable contact!
While performing at the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SING CONTEST - your behaviour in the venue must be respectful and within the rules of the establishment - any disorderly conduct or drunken behaviour will lead to immediate disqualification without refund of your entry fee.
All information on the application form will be accurate and true - any obvious misleading information submitted on your form may come up for revue and could lead to disqualification without refund of entry fee.
All singers will be required to use the microphones provided by the host - no personal mics will be permitted. If you have your own stand - you must ensure you have the appropriate clips and adapters to connect mic to your stand.
Costumes and props are permitted - extra people on stage of any kind and additional vocalists - even "un-mic-ed" are NOT!
Any damage or misuse of provided equipment (swinging mics etc.) will not be permitted and may lead to disqualification. ·You miss your turn on stage – you will get a ZERO for your song.
Judging Criteria:Judges will be given a judges sheet and will score each performer on the following:
·VOCAL ABILITY: Ability to hit the correct notes in the song, sing in tempo, with correct emotion and breathing.OUT OF 30 POINTS!
·STAGE PRESENCE: Ability to sell the song and connect with the audience - deliver true emotion of performance.OUT OF 10 POINTS!
·INTERPRETATION: Do you look and or sound like the star? Or did you make the song unique to your style?OUT OF 10 POINTS
Each performance will be given a score out of 50 and the total of all performances will determine the FINAL SCORE for each performer.THE TOP THREE performers of each Preliminary night will move to the ELIMINATION ROUNDS.In the event of any discrepancy - the judges and organizing committee's decision will be FINAL. In TRY-OUT ROUNDS - there will be no access to score sheets - as it is more of an audition format than formal scoring.
PRELIMINARY ROUNDS: JANUARY 24th, 2012 to FEBRUARY 21st, 2012
From Tuesday January 24th, 2012 to Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 - all nights starting at 9:30pm , the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SING contest will conduct preliminary rounds – EIGHT MAX (8) contestants per night!TOP TWO FINISHES per night will advance to the ELIMINATION ROUNDS – starting FEBRUARY 28th, 2012
We will accept applicants on EACH PRELIMINARY round UNTIL ALL 8 SPOTS ARE FILLED for the night!You must be sure that you are available to perform when called upon – anytime between 8pm and 11pm of that qualifying day! Each singer will prepare TWO (2) songs (Time Permitting).The SECOND song can only be chosen AFTER EVERY QUALIFIER has chosen their first song.ORDER OF SONG CHOICE will be determined by the order of PERFORMANCE.If you are slated to go on stage first – then you will choose your song first. THE SECOND ROUND - the song choice and performance order will be in REVERSE for round TWO!
Songs must be in CD+G format from host's library or with their own disc. Each performer is responsible for their own discs and playability. VOCAL ELIMINATORS, VCD'S, DVD'S and TRACKS ONLY are NOT PERMITTED. RESTARTS will only be permitted if the error is on behalf of the host. All provided discs must have NO LEAD VOCALS. You miss your turn on stage – you will get a zero for your song. JUDGES TOTAL SCORES FOR EACH SONG and their scores are final! SCORECARDS will NOT be given back to the performers following the announcement of who has made it through to the ELIMINATION ROUNDS
ELIMINATION ROUNDS: On TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28th, 2011 - all TEN (10) qualifiers from the previous rounds will be required to be at the ADMIRAL PUB - at 8:00pm SHARP - to choose performance order and give the host your first song!EACH ELIMINATION ROUND will be THEMED so each finalist must perform their songs within the THEME!
Performance order will be chosen out of a hat for both rounds!Singers must have songs ready to sing in the theme when chosen.THERE ARE NO duplicate songs.If you are chosen first – then you will get first choice of song. Week #6 - TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28th, 2012 - CANADIAN CONTENT Week #7 - TUESDAY, MARCH 13th, 2012 - BACK TO THE 80's Week #8 - TUESDAY, MARCH 20th, 2012 - MYSTERY ARTISTS
JUDGES TOTAL SCORES FOR EACH SONG. TWO person will be eliminated per night – until we reach MARCH 20TH, 2012 where we have a TRIPLE elimination – the remaining 5 will battle in the finals on MARCH 27th, 2012 - PLUS one FAN VOTE - and the TOP TWO plus ONE FAN VOTE will move to the CANADIAN KARAOKE CHAMPIONSHIPS There will be public bathrooms and a small changing area if needed - but all are public and shared - so be prepared!
All performers will be seated in a special area of the room. If you MISS YOUR TURN without advising the host you have a life threatening emergency - you will score ZERO for that song. If you are reinstated in a later position - you will take a 5 point penalty.

Again - after results are announced - all results are FINAL!
Prizes are to be awarded and all terms of prizes are to be exercised!
